Route of the Week - Warminster Line

November 21, 2016

This week we’ll be exploring SEPTA’s Warminster Line. The Warminster Line is a Regional Rail Line that runs between University City and Warminster.

Warminster Station

The Warminster Line began service on December 18, 1872 under the North East Pennsylvania Railroad. Over a century later in 1983, SEPTA took control of the line, calling it the R2 Warminster. On July 25, 2010, SEPTA dropped the R-number naming system and the R2 Warminster became simply the Warminster Line.

On a typical weekday, the Warminster Line carries 8,591 passengers and makes 57 trips. This route is 22.3 miles long with 19 stations along the way, including Suburban Station, Fern Rock, Glenside, and Hatboro. The Warminster Line connects with a number of SEPTA bus routes such as the Route 22, 77, and 310. It also connects with the Richboro-Warminster RushBus, which you can catch at Warminster Station.

If you're looking to do some shopping, the Warminster Line's Willow Grove Station is only a few minutes down the road from the Willow Grove Mall. To get there from the station, you can either make the short walk or hop the Route 55 bus and get dropped off right at the mall's entrance. If you're heading to the airport, the Warminster Line can take you there! Select Warminster Line trains continue to Philadelphia International Airport, just make sure to check the schedule before you go. .

The Warminster Line is one of the two Regional Rail Lines that takes part in the Santa Express. This year’s Santa Express takes place on Friday, November 25, 2016 from 10a-12p. Passengers from all over the Philadelphia area will get the chance to ride holiday-themed SEPTA trains with Santa, Mrs. Claus, the elves, and other visitors from the North Pole!

When trains arrive in Center City, the fun continues in Dilworth Park with ice skating, shopping, food and drinks, and more festive fun. Learn more about the 2016 Santa Express by visiting iseptaphilly.com/SANTAEXPRESS.
