Pokémon GO-ing Around Philadelphia

July 18, 2016

If you’re one of the 10 million people who’ve downloaded Pokémon GO and you live in Philadelphia, then you’re in luck. Not only is our city about to host the Democratic National Convention this week, but it also hosts hundreds of Pokémon Gyms & Pokéstops. For those who have managed to avoid the game so far, a Pokéstop can be any noteworthy place in your city or town where players can gather equipment and gear needed for the game. By following a map to marked locations, players identify present-day and historical monuments such as the LOVE sign, Geno’s Steaks , Reading Terminal Market, or even SEPTA’s own City Hall Station.

Players who aren’t particularly excited about walking long distances can instead take advantage of SEPTA’s buses and trains to beat foot traffic between Pokéstops or Pokémon Gyms. Not only can SEPTA help you get to and from different locations with the game, but it can also help you hit a larger number of Pokéstops along the way, not to mention the fact that covering more ground in less time increases your chances of coming across a rare Pokémon. The game favors places where communities can gather, so locations along SEPTA’s system such as Dilworth Park, Rittenhouse Square, Spruce Street Harbor Park, and other areas have become hot spots for catching Pokémon.

For the over 21 crowd, there’s even a scheduled Pokémon Go Bar Crawl happening in Fishtown on July 30th with an estimated 800 in attendance. The crawl spans across 10 bars and is hosted by Shibby, a social networking app. Why not hop on the Market-Frankford Line to Girard station and hit tons of Pokéstops on your way there?

With the help of SEPTA, The City of Philadelphia is the perfect place for you to become the very best Pokémon Master. Snap a picture of where you found a Pokémon in Philadelphia & on SEPTA and send it to us! While walking around and playing, don’t forget to remain alert of your surroundings. Trust us; there will still be plenty Zubats to catch.
