Philadelphia Zoo

The Philadelphia Zoo, located in West Philadelphia, has over 300 species of animals spread throughout its beautiful 42-acre space. As one America's first zoos, it also is known for its historic architecture, including the home of William Penn's grandson. 

How to get there

Hop the Route 38 Bus or the Route 15 Trolley. Or flash your SEPTA Pass on the Philly PHLASH and ride for free!

Fare

The Philly PLASH, stopping at major locations around Philadelphia, is FREE with your SEPTA Pass.

Bus or trolley one-way fare is $2.50 cash. You must have exact change if paying the cashier. The cashier cannot make change.

Your best bet, is a SEPTA Key Card. The SEPTA Key Travel Wallet allows you to pay as you go and you'll receive a discount for each ride ($2:00 versus the $2.50 cash fare). You must load a minimum of $10 [which will get you 5 rides]. Funds in your Travel Wallet can only be used to pay for one (1) person. It cannot be tapped multiple times to pay for anyone traveling with you.

Things To Do

In the McNeil Avian Center, visitors can walk-through habitats and observe over 100 birds from around the world. Big Cat Falls gives visitors an up-close look at felines like lions, leopards, jaguars, pumas, and tigers. Besides a vast array of animals from near and far, the zoo also offers swan boat rides, a hot air balloon, and pony rides. This year marks the 46th year of Christmas in Fairmount Park. The Historic Houses of Fairmount Park offer some of the best preserved examples of 18th- and 19th-century early American architecture. The decorated homes will be open to visitors from 10a to 4p, 11/30 thru 12/31. Reservations are not required. Admission is $8 per house; children 12 and younger are free. Visitors can take the PHLASH to all the houses now thru December 18. The PHLASH loop begins at the West entrance of the Philadelphia Museum Of Art. Hop on or off at any of the houses. An all-day pass costs $5. But if you've got a SEPTA Key or Pass - it's free for you! SEPTA Bus Routes 7, 32, 38, 43 and 48 serve the Philadelphia Art Museum area.
