Published on March 28, 2016

This week our Route of the Week takes us under the Market-Frankford Line, through North Philadelphia and beyond! Have you ever wanted to know more about the SEPTA Route 3? Well now is your chance!

On a typical weekday, SEPTA's Route 3 carries 10,804 passengers and travels 1,428 miles. Those stats rank it 21 out of SEPTA's most traveled routes. Since 1956 the Route 3 has utilized buses. Prior to that you would fine streetcars on this route. The current bus route follows the old trolley route, with only some minor changes.

The Route 3 travels along Cecil B. Moore Avenue, once known as Columbia Avenue. The Route 3 then travels along Kensington Avenue below the MFL and heads to Frankford Transportation Center, where it connects with 17 different bus routes. The Route 3 also travels through Temple University's Main Campus, making it an easy destination for students who live in off-campus housing.
