Route of the Week - 47m

April 9, 2018

This week, we're exploring the Route 47m! The Route 47m is a SEPTA City Bus Route that runs northbound between Whitman Plaza and Spring Garden Street. The Route 47m is great for people travelling from South Philadelphia to Center City or North Philadelphia, as it takes riders right up 9th Street. However, the Route 47m only travels one direction, so riders wishing to go southbound will have to take the Route 47 instead. On a typical day, the Route 47m carries 2,223 passengers and makes 24 trips. The Route 47m operates on weekdays from 8:30a to 5:00p, on Saturdays from 9a to 5:30p, and on Sundays from 10a to 2:30p.

One of the most notable characteristics of the Route 47m is that is travels through the South 9th Street Italian Market.  In fact, the "m" in 47m stands for "market," referring to the Italian Market it runs through. The Market runs along 9th Street from Wharton to Fitzwater Streets, featuring delicacies ranging from ground coffee beans to fresh pasta. Vendors line the street serving not only delectable Italian fare, but also Mexican, Vietnamese, Korean, and more.

The 47m also connects with SEPTA’s Jefferson Station, where riders can connect with Regional Rail, the Market-Frankford Line, the Broad-Ridge Spur, and nine other SEPTA bus routes.

If you’re looking to go from south to north on 9th Street, the Route 47m is the bus for you!  Comment below if you ride!
