Rx for Good Health: An Annual Wellness Exam

January 12, 2022

As a reminder, SEPTA urges riders to practice safe hygiene to help prevent the spread of germs, including wearing a mask properly, washing hands frequently and thoroughly, and refraining from using SEPTA when feeling sick.

And if you have been putting off routine medical care, the first of the year is an excellent time to make a date with your doctor.

Why is a regular check-up valuable for managing your health? It gives you a chance to...

Build your doctor-patient relationship and discuss any concerns you may have. A regular check-up lets you develop rapport with your doctor, and the better your doctor knows you and your health, the better care you will receive.

Prevent health issues. Your annual visit is a time to detect any changes in your health. Your doctor will listen to your heart, measure your blood pressure and discuss screening tests to consider.

Update your vaccinations. In addition to your COVID-19 vaccination or booster, you may need a flu shot, tetanus and diphtheria boosters, or a pneumococcal vaccine.

Review your medications and supplements. It's a good idea to compile a list of your medications and review them with your doctor to make sure you are treating your medical issues effectively.

And finally - seeing your doctor is an easy New Year's Resolution to check off the list!
