SEPTA Key Transition on Regional Rail Continues with October Monthly TrailPasses

September 20, 2019

ICYMI Monthly TrailPasses are moving over to the SEPTA Key card, starting with Zones 3 and 4 in October.

October Monthly TrailPasses go on sale starting Friday, September 20, 2019. If you need an October TrailPass - you can no longer purchase a paper pass - you will need to get a SEPTA Key card.

SEPTA Key cards loaded with TrailPasses are available for purchase at all SEPTA Sales Offices and Fare Kiosks at Center City Regional Rail stations, as well as at select outlying stations including:

Villanova, Ambler, Philmont, Conshohocken, Swarthmore, Primos, Norwood, Strafford, Haverford, Manayunk, Queen Lane, Wayne Junction, Melrose Park, Langhorne and Holmesburg Junction. Stay tuned for more.

We urge everyone to register their SEPTA Key card as soon as you get it, to protect against loss or theft. It takes just a couple minutes to register your card at septakey.org. When you register your card within 30 days of purchase, you receive a full credit for the $4.95 new card fee. This credit is placed in your card's Travel Wallet and can be used for future rides or towards the purchase of another pass. Cards can also be registered by calling the number on the back of the card: (855) 567-3782.

The phase-out of the old-style, magnetic stripe passes for Monthly TrailPass customers follows similar transitions for Weekly TrailPass customers over the last two months.

Following Zones 3 and 4 in October, purchases of Monthly TrailPasses for Zones 1 and 2 will fully transition to the Key card in November. Sales start October 20, 2019.

SEPTA is also working on plans to accommodate customers transitioning to the Key who purchase monthly parking permits, and efforts continue to prepare for the debut of Travel Wallet on Regional Rail. More information will be announced in the near future.

Please note: This phase-out of the old magnetic stripe passes does not apply to customers who get their passes through ComPass, WageWorks, Wired Commute or other employer-based programs that provide passes directly to customers. Details on the switch to the Key for customers enrolled in these programs will be announced at a later date.
