Service Advisory | Paoli/Thorndale Line

Due to Amtrak switch replacement work, shuttle buses will substitute for train service between Overbrook and 30th Street Stations (inbound and outbound service) on Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6, 2020. 

Trains departing Thorndale or Malvern will arrive at Overbrook Station approximately 35-45 minutes EARLIER than the current schedule with the exception of the last train of the day -  which will operate according to the current timetable.

Shuttle bus service will operate every 2 hours departing Overbrook Station at :55 and :06 after the hour beginning at 5:55 a.m.

You can connect to West Trenton, Lansdale/Doylestown, and Warminster trains for continuing travel at 30th Street Station.

AMTRAK’s construction forces plan to replace the #143B cross-over switch, located at JO Interlocking which is at the western limits of Zoo Interlocking located underneath the Girard and Belmont Ave bridge. This switch is vital in the movement of SEPTA and Amtrak trains destined to the Paoli/Thorndale and Harrisburg line.

Work will include taking track out-of-service on Friday night to begin manipulating equipment inside the signal hut and switch gear. Work crews will be replacing switch equipment and updating track geometry to be able to better handle trains running through the switch.

This will improve service reliability via improved movement through the switch.

AMTRAK requires complete access to all tracks in this area for construction and extensive testing. Busing is necessary to provide this required access.

You should anticipate increased travel time of approximately 35 minutes

Trains departing Temple University Station will arrive at 30th Street Station approximately 50 minutes EARLIER than the current schedule with the exception of the last train of the day - which will operate according to the current timetable

Buses will depart 30th Street Station heading towards Overbrook at :09 after the hour beginning at 8:09 a.m. and arrive at Overbrook at :34 after the hour- 19 minutes EARLIER than the current train schedule.

Shuttle bus service will operate every 2 hours.

Trains will be waiting for continuing travel towards Paoli. Customers should anticipate increased travel time of approximately 35 minutes
