Rosa Parks Day

February 1, 2021

On Thursday, February 4, 2021, SEPTA will pay tribute to Rosa Parks, honoring her pivotal role in the civil rights movement.

Rosa Parks refusal to relinquish her bus seat in Montgomery, Alabama to a white man on December 1, 1955, was the beginning to the end of segregation on public transportation. Her courage to confront injustice and equality before the Supreme Court, lead to a ruling that segregated buses were unconstitutional.

To commemorate this historic event, SEPTA will dedicate a seat on the Route 16 bus.

The dedication will take place on Thursday, February 4 at 10:30am at 1234 Market Street, Philadelphia.

This day marks what would have been Rosa Parks' 108th birthday.
