Route of the Week - 49

August 19, 2019

This week we're exploring the Route 49! Born Sunday, February 24, 2019, the Route 49 operates seven days a week and offers frequent service. Peak weekday trips will run every 15 minutes, with midday service every 20 minutes, and evening trips every half-hour. Weekend service will run every 20 minutes midday, and 30 minutes in the morning and evening.

The Route 49 connects University City to the Philadelphia neighborhoods of Strawberry Mansion, Brewerytown, Fairmount, Spring Garden, Logan Square, and Grays Ferry. It also serves Amtrak 30th Street Station and the Ben Franklin Parkway. It is part of SEPTA's continuing efforts to improve transit access to employment destinations.

Despite only being in service for two months, the Route 49 is already reporting 1,600 riders a day. It makes sense, since this seven mile route connects several different neighborhoods to so different many places. We've highlighted 49 of the key destinations along the Route 49 - check them out here.  For Penn, Drexel, and University of the Sciences students heading back to school this week, the Route 49 is a great way to get around University City and beyond!

Whether you're heading to work, play, school, or anything in between, hop the Route 49 and let SEPTA do the driving!
