Women Building SEPTA - Trades & Technical Career Fair

We are currently seeking women interested in or currently working within the skilled trade/technical fields to for the following positions: Bus Mechanic, Rail Vehicle Mechanic, Rail Vehicle Electrical/Electronic Maintainer, Building Electrician, Welder, HVAC Maintainer (Vehicle & Facilities), Construction Equipment Operator, Power Trainee, Signal Trainee, Track General Helper, and Mason. Job descriptions listed below.

On Saturday, October 27, 2018, from 9a to 1p, SEPTA is hosting a Women Building SEPTA - Trades & Technical Career Fair. This exciting event will have two focal points:

1. For women who are currently working within the skilled trade/technical fields, this is an opportunity to quickly pre-qualify for existing vacancies. We will conduct accelerated testing for the skilled craft positions listed below, and we will have managers available to discuss careers at SEPTA. To qualify for most of these job opportunities, you need to have at the minimum one year of high-level work experience related to the position in which you are interested. However, the Signal and Power Trainee positions will accept one year of relevant technical education or military training in lieu of work experience.

2. For women who are interested in starting careers in the skilled trade/technical fields, we will provide useful information on potential career paths, training school information and one-on-one meetings with managers to discuss careers at SEPTA.

Job Descriptions:

Bus Mechanic - We are always looking for experienced automotive mechanic with the ability to repair gas and diesel engines and transmissions. Our mechanics diagnose complex mechanical, electrical and pneumatic troubles on our vehicles and repair, replace and adjust engines, clutches, transmissions, refrigeration units, and other automotive equipment. Work experience on buses and/or diesel engines is a plus but not required. Mechanics with dealership experience desired. Qualified candidates must possess at least one year of related experience.

Rail Vehicle Mechanic - For this position, which we have on both the Regional Rail Division and City Transit Division, we are looking for an individual with at least one year of relevant mechanical and/or electro-mechanical experience. We are also looking for the ability to read schematics, prints and other electrical documents. Technical training a plus but not required.

Rail Vehicle Electrical/Electronic Maintainer - The electrical/electronic maintainer position, on both the Rail and City Division, requires strong troubleshooting abilities, to go along with solid repair and replacement skills on electrical and electronic controls throughout the rail car. We need at least one year of related work experience; technical school and/or military training in relevant area is a plus.

Building Electrician - This is a position where we are looking for a highly skilled and experienced electricians to repair, troubleshoot and install electrical systems in a variety of locations, both in our City, Suburban and Regional Rail Divisions. To qualify, you must have at last two years of high-level work experience as a commercial electrician.

Welder - We are looking for experienced welders with skills in electric arc welding, cutting and brazing. Must also be certified in accordance with requirements of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), AWS (American Welding Society) or ABS (American Bureau of Ships). Current vacancies are on our Railroad Division, but we frequently hire Welders into our City Transit Division.

HVAC Maintainer (Vehicle & Facilities) - We are seeking experience HVAC Maintainers to work either on our bus and rail vehicles or in our facilities group. The qualified applicants will have at the minimum two years of high-level work experience in HVAC maintenance, repair and troubleshooting. Work experience on boilers is a plus.

Construction Equipment Operator - We are seeking experienced construction equipment operators to operate all types of construction equipment and tractor-trailers. They will also drive and operate special function trucks with hi-rail such as trash trucks, log loaders, roto dump truck, boom truck, etc. Additionally, they will operate construction equipment including cranes to load, haul and unload trailers. Must have at least two years of experience operating tractor-trailers and/or trucks requiring a commercial driver's license and also must possess a valid PA or equivalent Class A CDL license.

Power Trainee - The Power Trainee is an excellent position for applicants interested in high-voltage power distribution on SEPTA's Regional Rail lines. We are looking for candidates with a minimum of two years in the electrical or mechanical/electrical fields or a two-year technical school degree in electrical or mechanical disciplines. The trainee position requires the ability to climb to high levels to maintain overhead power lines.

Signal Trainee - The Signal Trainee is an excellent position for applicants interested in repairing, maintaining and testing signals including cable, electrical and mechanical equipment apparatus on SEPTA's City Transit, Suburban Transit or Regional Rail Divisions. We are looking for candidates with a minimum of two years in the electrical or mechanical/electrical fields or a two-year technical school degree in electrical or mechanical disciplines. This trainee position requires the ability to climb to high levels to maintain the signal system.

Track General Helper - This position requires at least two years of work experience in the following fields: construction, roofing, landscaping, or heavy labor. This Track position is an excellent entry level position into higher level track and building maintenance positions.

Mason - Our Masons are accomplished in installing brick, terra cotta, terrazzo, tile and building blocks to construct or repair walls, partitions, floors, arches and other structures. To qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of work experience in bricklaying, cement finishing and wall plastering.
