Route of the Week - Trenton Line

March 25, 2019

This week we're checking out the Trenton Line! This Regional Rail Line runs between Center City Philadelphia and Trenton, New Jersey. The last stop on this line is Trenton Transit Center, where you can connect to NJ Transit and Amtrak. If you are heading to New York City, they can hop on the NJ Transit's Northeast Corridor train at Trenton Transit Center, which takes you right into New York's Penn Station.

On a typical weekday, the Trenton Line carries 11,857 passengers and travels 2,220 miles. The Trenton Line makes 61 trips per weekday, 38 trips on Saturday, and 27 trip on Sunday. In 2018, the Trenton Line had the third highest ridership of all SEPTA Regional Rail Lines. There are 15 stops along the line, including Temple University, 30th Street Station, Torresdale, and Bristol.

Although operated by SEPTA, the Trenton Line runs along Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. Electrified service between Philadelphia and Trenton began on June 29, 1930.

Between 1984–2010 the Trenton Line was designated R7 Trenton as part of SEPTA's diametrical reorganization of its lines. Trenton Line trains operated through the city center to the Chestnut Hill East Line on the ex-Reading side of the system. The R-number naming system was dropped on July 25, 2010. As of 2018, most Trenton Line trains continue through Center City to the Chestnut Hill East Line, while some trains terminate at Temple University or continue to other destinations.

Whether you're headed to Trenton, NYC, or just a stop along the way, hop the Trenton Line and let SEPTA get you where you need to be!
