Chestnut Hill Harry Potter Festival & Quidditch Tournament 2017

All aboard! The Chestnut Hill Harry Potter Festival returns on Saturday, 10/21. Magic fills the air, witches and wizards fill the streets, and naturally, the best way to get there is on SEPTA. The Chestnut Hill East and Chestnut Hill West Regional Rail Lines, will deliver Philadelphians (and out-of-towners) to the festival.

The Festival runs from 10a to 4p, and trains run before, during, and after the festival to transport fans to and from "Hogsmeade." We even have trains to get you there for the Firebolt 5K and One Mile Nimbus Walk which both kick-off at 8:30a.

Regional Rail riders will also get a chance to mingle with Harry Potter and friends (and enemies) in Jefferson Station. The Potter gang are expected to make their appearance at 8a, and will enjoy various activities with fans before they disapparate to the festival.

And this year we'll have other Potter supporters (or should we say, Dumbledore's Army) joining us for our Pre-Festival Party in Jefferson Station! KYW Newsradio is setting up a pop-up studio - so try your hand at reading the news (which you choose, muggle or magic, is totally up to you!). The Philadelphia Horticultural Society will have a station to make-your-own flower wands.. The Free Library will have their own magical world - a display of all-things-Potter. With the Free Library, festival-goers will get to make their own Harry Potter craft (and here's a hint... it's wearable!). They'll also register new members for library cards.

Of course, be sure to stop by the SEPTA table. We'll answer all of your travel questions to get you to-and-from the festival safely. And you can also win big! Try your hand at the SEPTA Prize Wheel; you could come away with a lightning bolt tattoo, Potter glasses, bookmarks, or a wand. Plus we'll have 2017 Harry Potter Festival buttons for everyone (while supplies last)!

Once again, Chestnut Hill expects record setting attendance at the now famous festival, so Germantown Avenue will be closed down to cars to allow for safe pedestrian travels. Parking in and around the area will be extremely limited. Only Chestnut Hill residents and credentialed businesses, vendors, media, and entertainment will be allowed vehicular access into the area surrounding the Festival footprint.

SEPTA is your best bet there and we encourage you to get your tickets ahead of time and get to the station early on Saturday. No muggles will be allowed on the platform without a ticket. Tickets can be purchased at Jefferson Station (Sales Offices in both Section A and Section B will be open). Tickets can also be purchased from any other SEPTA Sales or Ticket Office that sells Zone 2 Fares. Round-trip tickets to Hogsmeade are $8.50 (Zone 2 Weekend Fare to Chestnut Hill East and Chestnut Hill West). You can also use a TrailPass, TransPass or One Day Independence Pass. Space on the train will be first come, first served.

SEPTA reps will be on hand at Jefferson Station on Saturday morning for assistance, and will come bearing extra festivities (and some prizes)! We have extra trains running on Chestnut Hill West to and from the festival. Which means more trains, more often! There will also be three extra trains originating at Suburban Station, as noted below.

On the return to Center City, there will be four trains terminating at Suburban Station.

If you can't wait until Saturday, there's also Wands & Wizards Night on the Avenue on Friday, October 20. They're promising an evening of Potions, Pubs, and magical possibilities in Chestnut Hill.

New for 2017, to make the magic of the event more accessible for visitors – Chestnut Hill has replaced the Harry Potter Pub Crawl with Wands & Wizards Night. The event runs from 6p to 9p on Germantown Avenue. No tickets required, no cost to attend (activities and entertainment options are pay-as-you-go unless otherwise noted), enough mischief to be managed by all.

Enjoy a special evening of magical fun including photo booths, performances by aerialists, fortune tellers along Germantown Avenue, and much more. New for 2017 – The Franklin Institute brings Astronomy to Wands & Wizards Night. Join the science museum at Jenks Memorial Playground for a family-friendly “out of this world” evening. Spirited food and beverage specials will also be available at participating restaurants throughout Chestnut Hill. Stores on the Avenue will remain open until 9p. Astronomy Night will run 7p-10p.

Leave your brooms at home and the driving to SEPTA. Both the Chestnut Hill East and the Chestnut Hill West Lines can get you there and back.
