Let's Move More

April 6, 2022

Looks like ole’ man winter is even MOVIN’ ...ON, that is! So, let’s Spring it, shall we?

Every April, the American Heart Association (AHA) celebrates physical activity and encourages all Americans to commit to being more active on a regular basis.

The first Wednesday in April is National Walking Day and it encourages Americans of all ages to get out and stretch their legs and get their hearts pumping. And don't worry - there's no need to run - when you can walk!

Walking is one of the best exercises to do. Some of the benefits of walking include:

  • Improved cardiovascular health

  • Maintaining a healthy weight

  • Improved flexibility in joints

  • Stronger muscles

  • Improved mental health

Did you know public transportation users take 30% more steps per day than people who rely on cars? In fact - train commuters are 4 times more likely to achieve 10,000 daily steps than car commuters.

It's estimated that individuals who use public transportation get an average of 19 minutes of physical activity per day - just from walking to/from their station or stop.
