Buses to Replace Trolleys on Route 15

January 22, 2020

Starting Sunday, January 26, 2020, SEPTA will operate buses in place of trolleys for the entire length of the Route 15 to accommodate roadway construction and vehicle rehabilitation.

The eastern portion of the line, along Girard Avenue and Richmond Street, has already operated with buses in recent years due to the I-95 construction project.

SEPTA is making this temporary change to all bus service on the Route 15 due in part to two upcoming construction projects on Girard Avenue that would have required additional adjustments to trolley service. SEPTA will utilize this time to perform extensive maintenance and rehabilitation work on the fleet of 18 PCC trolleys that serve the Route 15. The goal of this work is to extend the life of the vehicles, and improve their reliability once they are placed back into service.

The cars were built in the late 1940s and last saw an overhaul in 2002.

We expect busing on the Route 15 to continue through 2021.

Buses will follow regular posted schedules for the Route 15. For up to the minute service information delivered directly to you sign up for the Route 15 Twitter account - @SEPTA_TRL_15
