Next Stop: An Amazing Volunteer Opportunity!

January 2, 2020

Philly Reading Coaches (PRC) is seeking volunteers at 20+ sites across the city. Residents can help children build their reading skills and confidence. It’s fun, meaningful, and often just a train ride away!

Philly Reading Coaches (PRC), part of Philadelphia’s Out of School Time Initiative, helps children grow more comfortable as readers by pairing them with volunteers for fun, one-on-one reading sessions for one hour, once a week. This early literacy/civic engagement program pairs volunteers with K-3rd grade students for the weekly, one-on-one reading sessions. Each child also receives 25 free books to take home and continue discovering the joys of reading.

Do you want to support the city’s efforts to help more children read on grade level by fourth grade? Reading sessions take place after school between the hours of 3 to 6 p.m. in schools, recreation centers, libraries, Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA), and Police Athletic League (PAL) sites all across the city. Many Philly Reading Coaches sites are easy to access by public transit, including the following.
