Route of the Week - 39

April 10, 2017

This week we'll be exploring SEPTA's Route 39! The Route 39 is a City Bus that serves the Kensington and Strawberry Mansion sections of Philadelphia. On a typical weekday, this route travels 1,087 miles and carries 2,566 passengers.

The Route 39 became a bus route on February 25, 1956. Before that, it was streetcar line that went by the same name. With the exception of the eastbound buses being rerouted along Lehigh Ave, the bus route follows the old streetcar routing.

The Route 39 connects with both SEPTA's Broad Street Line and Market-Frankford Line along its 4.9 mile route. It connects with the BSL at Susquehanna-Dauphin Station and the MFL at York-Dauphin and Huntingdon Stations.
