American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition

Back by popular demand, American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition returns to the National Constitution Center for the first time since 2012 [who else remembers this amazing train car???}.

The 5,000-square-foot display includes over 100 rare artifacts from the temperance movement, including a hatchet used by Carrie Nation, original ratification copies of the 18th and 21st amendments and a Prohibition Bureau Badge issued by the Department of Justice. Runs Friday, 3/3 through Sunday, 7/16. So easy to get here on SEPTA. Hop the Market-Frankford Line to 5th Street/Independence Hall or Routes 17, 33, 38, 44, 48 or 57. American Watercolor in the Age of Homer and Sargent

The Philadelphia Musuem of Art welcomes  American Watercolor in the Age of Homer and Sargent, an exhibit that charts the rise and evolution of watercolor in America from 1860 to 1925, at which point it had become a truly American art form. The exhibition focuses on the works of Winslow Homer and John Singer Sargent, two of the most influential U.S. watercolor artists. welcomes the new month by offering discounted admission to all guests of the museum. Save the Date: Bits & Bite's of History Series

Elfreth's Alley

On Friday, 5/5, Elfreth's Alley will host its second First Friday "Bits & Bite's of History Series" of 2017 with an evening of Philadelphia’s Beloved, Iconic Sandwiches, the Cheesesteak and the Hoagie which will include a short discussion of the history of the cheesesteak and hoagie by local Philadelphia Food Historian, author and tour guide, Carolyn Wyman. Old City's Campo's will be providing a hoagie sampling. The event runs from 5:30p to 8p and is free and open to the public.  There will also be opportunity to tour the Elfreth's Museum House.
