Ridership: March 2024

April 17, 2024

System-wide ridership in March 2024 was 65% of pre-COVID March 2019 ridership. This is the second highest recovery rate since the start of the pandemic.

System-wide ridership increased 10% from March 2023. On average there were approximately 58,094 more trips per day in March 2024 compared to March 2023. This is based on the calendar month.

Average daily ridership was 656,767 unlinked passenger trips across all modes.

Bus mode ridership recovery reached 72% and only increased by 1% relative to March 2023 - however Philadelphia Public Schools were closed during the week of 3/25/24 for Spring Break, Easter fell on 3/31/24, and many other school districts as well as colleges and universities had Spring Break as well.

Regional Rail experienced its highest average daily ridership (78,463) and ridership recovery rate (66%) since the start of the pandemic. Ridership has also increased 18% relative to March 2023 (an increase of 11,949 unlinked trips per day). Some of this uptick in ridership can be attributed to The Philadelphia Flower Show which ran 3/2/24 thru 3/10/24 at The Pennsylvania Convention Center. Historically (pre-COVID) SEPTA would see a 14% jump in Regional Rail ridership during The Philadelphia Flower Show.

Combined Broad Street Line and Market-Frankford Line ridership has increased 25% relative to March 2023 and is at 56% of pre-pandemic levels based on revenue ridership data.

Trolley ridership recovery is at 60% as of March 2024 when compared to the pre-COVID March 2019 total. October 2023 ridership was the highest both in terms of the total number of unlinked passenger trips and recovery rate. February 2024 was the second highest in terms of ridership recovery and total ridership.

Let’s keep it up! Every trip counts and we appreciate every tap/swipe!
