Route of the Week: Market-Frankford Line

March 28, 2022

The Market-Frankford Line is a subway-elevated route.

The Market-Frankford Line - also known as the El or the Blue Line - starts in Upper Darby - just outside of West Philly. It then travels west on Market Street - making stops in West Philly, University City, Center City, and Old City. Then - it turns north and travels through Northern Liberties, Fishtown, and Kensington before arriving at its destination at Frankford Transportation Center.

This is the workhorse of the system - SEPTA's most popular route. It runs very frequently from approximately 4:45a to midnight. One of the best parts of the El is that it's a 15-15-5 route. That means - it runs every 15 minutes or less for at least 15 hours a day (6a-9p), 5 days a week. If you're going within that time period - the El is running so frequently the times aren't even listed on the schedule. You can see where it is in real time with TransitView - also available on the SEPTA App
